Windsor 2025 Day Five
By: Eric, Julia, Charlotte, and Tyler
Today we woke up earlier than usual. Ice cream? We started our day driving to UHC which is a warehouse that stores and distributes food to food banks in the area. When we arrived, they gave us instructions for the day. We split in teams and sorted the food by different categories with many people taking on different roles. We checked for expiry dates and sorted by type. We also found some food older than most of us (2004)! When taking a break halfway through they gave us really fancy water bottles! After a couple hours of sorting and a fantastic lunch of sandwiches from a local bakery, we headed over to Point Pelee, which is the most southern part of Canada. It was really cold out and the air was crisp but we had lots of fun climbing a tall tower from which you could see the very end of the point. When we walked to the point we found cool rocks and sea glass! Ice cream? And a couple people left with very wet feet! The water around the point was really cool, and one side looked like it was full of ice… and cream? And when the waves hit, everything moved! The ice cream was also in really cool formations that we had lots of fun looking at, but breaking it was our favourite part!!! Tyler was very proud he found a super circular piece of ice and he threw it! BAM! SMASH! Ice cream? We headed back to the church and spent the FULL hour singing and dancing! When arriving we got some news that we were making last minute care packages to handout out tonight to those less fortunate. Eric was a part of a group that went on the fastest shopping trip ever! And when they got back we sorted the items into bags, then all of us headed over to the Soup Shack. At the Soup Shack, Bobby who started the place gave us the rundown of the night. We started by lining tables with care packages, water, and clothes (which we got from the house of hope). A couple of us started in the kitchen serving soup, desserts, and coffee. We quickly learned how fast paced it was in there, with so many different faces popping in and out. Everyone’s main goal of the night was to talk to many different people hanging out and listen to many share their stories. We all really enjoyed talking to Milton who mentioned being invited to church for this Sunday. He was enthusiastic about picking out an outfit for church. This was a very eye opening experience where we were immersed with people of different backgrounds and living situations. They proved lots of stereotypes wrong by being super kind, appreciative and respectful. We were very thankful to have this opportunity to be apart of this unique serving experience! At the end we shared stories, thoughts and prayed for the volunteers in the Soup Shack and the people we met tonight. We headed home all very exited for the warm church and food… We’re still dreaming of pizza as we write this. Maybe by the time you read the next blog the pizza will be here! J.K Love you guys! Ice cream?
Never mind the pizzas here!!
