Dominican Republic 2024 Day Four
Today we started by waking up, going back to sleep, then waking up again. After 10 minutes of fighting the urge to go back to sleep one more time, I finally decided to get up only to find my back was bonded to the sheets (like a mouse in one of those sticky traps). Then the rush began and we hauled ourselves up the stairs for morning devos in the raging hot sun, where we completed our daily reflections. After that the team got together had a great morning prayer and ate some scrumdidliumshous pancakes.
After prepping for todays work, we all hopped in the bus and drove up to Villa Altagracia where we divided and conquered all the jobs. Half the team began painting and the other half went with Felix and learned the technique of how to lay brick. Luckily we’d had some shade in the morning while we were brick laying. After crushing it in the morning, we came back for an awesome lunch where we had some delicious melts along with homemade chicken soup.
Coming back to Villa Altagracia after lunch a few of the team members had a great snooze on the bus. We changed things up and helped mix concrete & pour/fill collum’s within the new classrooms and the new compound The Lighthouse is currently building! Then we went back to our morning jobs and continued to build the outer walls of the compound, while the rest of the team was priming and painting window trims for the new school!
We came back to a amazing dinner already prepared for us after a long days worth of work. There was some great Dominican style empanadas (It was a type of deep fried pastry half were cheese filled & the other half were chicken and they were amazing). For desert there were the best brownies ever, with smores on top and another with Oreo icing. Then the team went for a quick swim to cool off from the heat. Shortly after we finished up with night devo time where talked about having a broader vison in your future and what God has planned for you. Then we began this blog and chilled for the rest of the night.
Sincerely the brick layer union.
