SCROLL DOWN

Compass Kids

Compass kids

Compass Kids is a ministry created with your child in mind.

Our amazing volunteers are gifted and passionate about providing dynamic worship, creative teaching, and intentional small group times to capture your child’s attention and their heart.

Compass Kids
Sundays at 9:00 am & 11:00 AM (Orangeville)
Sundays at 10:00 am (shelburne)

We have a deep desire that children would not only experience what it means to know and follow Jesus Christ but even more that they would become His disciples. Each week the environment and age-appropriate teaching methods are designed to help your kids understand the Bible and learn to apply its teaching to their lives. A monthly take-home sheet is also available for each age group.

Children in nursery through senior kindergarten use curriculum from Orange
Children in grades 1-5 are taught from Gospel Light.

First time at Compass Kids?

For children up to age 2, our Nursery is on the main floor just to the left of the Auditorium. You can register your little one here and leave instructions for our volunteers.

For older kids age 2 up to grade 5, head up the stairs to your left as you come in the main doors at Compass. Upstairs you will be greeted by one of our volunteers who will guide you to our guest kiosk located down our main hallway. Once you are registered you will receive a set of stickers with a family identification number for you and your child. Our registration volunteers will help you get you registered and your children to the right room.

If for some reason your child were to need you during the service, your family identification code from your registration sticker will appear on the display in the auditorium. Head to the nursery or upstairs and one of our leaders bring you to your child.

When you arrive, head to the Compass Kids Check-In Centre (if you don’t see the sign, ask a greeter to lead you there). Your kids will be checked in, and you’ll receive instructions from there.

Safety

We know your child’s safety is important to you and we share that concern. From matching parent and child security tags to ensuring every volunteer is screened with an interview, reference checks, and criminal background check, we have aimed to make Compass Kids a safe and fun place for your child to learn about God. We also have security volunteers in place in the halls of both locations.

If you have any questions about Compass Kids, please contact Mary Jane Gerber (Director of Children's Ministry) by email or by phone at 519.941.4790.

2019 Mission Experiences

We are strong believers in the value and life long impact Short Term Missions Experiences can have on a person. One of our goals is to participate in the transformation of a community for the Kingdom. While on mission, we are able to work towards the goal of transformation by building relationships, working side by side with locals and supporting Kingdom work with our resources. However, something almost more profound also happens to the team that goes. People consistently comment how they wonder, after spending time on mission, who was blessed more.

While serving we;

  • Live in community together. Eat, play, work, and sometimes even cry together. When living in close community each day we learn to work with conflict and grow in team that leads to growth.

  • Worship and learn biblical truths daily. Whether we are singing, reading scripture or discussing deep issues like systematic injustice in our broken world, teams marinate in Kingdom thinking each day they are away from home.

  • Work and play outside our comfort zones. Whether teams are leading a game in a foreign language or working alongside locals to build something, they are often called out of their comfortable places to participate in ministry work. Most times, people are surprised at what they can accomplish too!

  • A break from technology. More and more this is becoming a valuable bonus on mission’s experiences. We are so programmed to need our tech that we often don’t realize that it owns us instead. Experiencing missions allows us to take a deep breath away from our tech to focus on the people around us, and it is always good!

In 2019, we will have two mission’s experiences taking place during the March Break.

Junior High: Grade 6 to 8 students are invited to sign up as we return to the Windsor community to work with Ambassador Baptist Church and the downtown Collaborative. Details are still being finalized, but we will likely be leading a children’s camp and helping with a variety of work projects. To apply and get more information, complete this online form

Estimated cost: $700

Approx. dates: March 8-15, 2019

Senior High: Students in high school are invited to join the team going to Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic to work with the Lighthouse Projects. Compass D.I.A.L. (Student Leadership)

This leadership development ministry of Compass Students is designed with the hope that we can disciple individuals who will stay connected and routed in God’s word and grow as leaders in the church, their school and our community.

D.I.A.L. is made up of three equally important parts:

  1. Monthly meals/meetings to learn and be challenged.

  2. Mentorship that is one on one and intentional.

  3. Serving is one of the best ways to put into practice what we learn.

Students wishing to apply for D.I.A.L. must be in grade 10, 11 or 12, be willing to commit to the monthly meetings, connect with their mentor, read assigned books and serve in one of the approved areas. The cost to cover things like the monthly meals and resources is $150/student (subsidies and payment plans are available).

We are full for the 2018/19 ministry year. If you’d like more information for next year, contact Rod Vis or get more info here.

Discerning the Voice of God: How to Recognize When God Speaks by Priscilla Shirer
(Oct. 4 – Nov. 29, 2018)

Do you feel that the ability to hear God's voice is for other people and not for you? Is it only for people who lived in Biblical times?
Not at all! The God who loved you enough to die for you loves you enough to talk to you. And wherever you are in your spiritual walk, God will find a way to speak to you in a way you will understand. Become acquainted with the Voice that has spoken from a fire and a cloud; with visible signs and an invisible Spirit; through a burning bush and burning hearts.
This Bible study is designed to help participants know the voice of God: His language, character, and tone of voice. By growing closer to God through His Word, participants will be able to discern God's voice from the voice of strangers.

God of Creation – A Study of Genesis 1-11 by Jen Wilkin (Sept. 24 – Dec. 3, 2018)

The opening lines and chapters of Genesis teach us fundamental truths about God. We watch Him bring light after darkness, order after chaos, and rest after toil--all through the power of His Word.

Revisit familiar stories and historical figures, challenge your basic knowledge, and discover deeper meanings in the text. As God reveals Himself through Scripture, we can only begin to understand ourselves when we first glimpse the character, attributes, and promises of our Creator.

Fight Back with Joy by Margaret Feinberg (Nov. 8 – Dec. 13, 2018)

Learn to practice joy, defiant joy. Sooner or later, we find ourselves on the battlefield of life and struggle to know how to respond. But God says, "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's" (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Though we can choose from many weapons, God wants to empower us to fight back with joy. This Bible study will help you embrace a life that's richer and fuller than you've ever known before—a life radiant with joy.

Compass Home Groups

compass home groups

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, we want to help you grow in your relationship with jesus christ.

home groups are a place where you can build relationships, explore biblical truth, and put your faith into action.

Joining a Home Group is easy. We simply want you to get together, get talking and get involved.

GET TOGETHER

  • Connect with others in a home group.

Be intentional about building relationships with one another. Spend time together, sharing life; the highs, the lows, and everything in between. You’ll experience authentic, caring community when you invest in group life.

GET TALKING

  • Thrive in your faith.

By engaging in real conversations about God and the Bible, you’ll grow in your faith as you explore biblical truth, pray and encourage one another.

GET INVOLVED

  • Commit to invest in the lives of others.

Group life encourages you to put your faith into action, by using your gifts and passions to serve and give in our church and in our communities.

We believe life transformation happens best in community!

HOW DO HOME GROUPS WORK?

Our groups consist of eight to twelve adults who meet regularly for a year or more. Groups meet weekly or bi-weekly on Sunday evenings and midweek evenings.

WHAT DO HOME GROUPS STUDY?

Groups are encouraged to use the weekly sermon based discussion questions.

The Sunday message serves as a conversation starter that groups continue throughout the week as they engage in meaningful discussion and study.

Our weekly discussion questions are easy to follow and provide practical application for everyone! Sermon based discussion questions create unity, synergy and inclusivity across our church and our sites. Occasionally, groups use various study materials that relate to a particular topic or interest.

What about kids?

Each home group strives to work out a suitable childcare plan. This may involve individual or shared babysitting, or rotating supervision by the group members. We don't want childcare concerns to hinder participation.

DivorceCare - Template.jpg

DivorceCare runs every Wednesday evening from 7:00-8:30 pm until December 12th. Cost: $25 (includes workbook)

DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

DivorceCare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable DivorceCare resources to help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever faced. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before.

Our DivorceCare group meets weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:

A Seminar with Experts

During the first 30-40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.

A Support Group with Focus

After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

“Words cannot express the brokenness and pain I felt. The Divorce Care program healed my pain and gave me hope, peace and freedom from the emotional baggage I was carrying.” – Larry

“I am so grateful for you, and for Compass Community Church. What an amazing experience. I found it so helpful. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you or the Divorce Care Program.” – Joanne

Freedom Session

Freedom Session

Freedom Session

Freedom Session

This season's Freedom Session is now in progress. For privacy reasons, no new members can be added. Next Freedom Session will be in the fall of 2019

What is Freedom Session?

Freedom Session is a life-changing, healing-discipleship journey that uncovers the roots of pain in our lives and invites Jesus Christ to heal those areas of our hearts.

Freedom Session encourages us to look honestly at how we deal with the challenges and troubles in life. It asks us to look into our past experiences, our strengths and our weaknesses, and challenges us to replace character defects with the character of God.

Freedom Session is writing your story with a new and God-inspired ending.

“Freedom session was a journey that took me back to the deepest hurts so that I could remember God's love for me, at the point where the lies took hold and made me forget. It was an inner heart surgery in order for me to let go of the false beliefs that were imprinted and, instead, learn to think and live truly as the creation God had originally intended.“ – Jenna

Who is Freedom Session For?

Freedom Session has proven effective for people from every walk of life, every economic level and virtually every possible area of woundedness.

Young adults planning for marriage who want to deal with some of the mistakes they’ve made in the past or hurtful memories endured while growing up.

Those currently going through a painful relationship breakdown.

Men and women struggling with purity issues such as pornography, and sexual addiction

People who compulsively use food, alcohol and/or drugs to alter their moods or avoid dealing with life.

People with less obvious issues in their lives (anger, control, isolation, frozen emotions, sarcasm, codependent relationships) who are seeking wholeness & significance.

Those who’ve been wounded through physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse.

Those who are just ready to give up, or already have given up and settled for a life of mediocrity.

We are all on a journey. We all want to be loved, find meaning and hope in this life and in our relationships. We’ve all been broken to some degree, and we all need a measure of healing. Freedom Session is for Everyone!

"It was time to face the truth of my past and all the garbage I had brought into my relationship with Christ. Freedom Session helped me along with a support team of individuals to find what real freedom was and the very reason Jesus Christ went and died on the cross. Freedom Session helped me to get real with God, myself and others.” - Clark

What is the Format?

Freedom Session is a 29-week video based program. Each week consists of:

  • Large group video teaching

  • Small groups of 6-8 people (same gender) discuss the session and review the workbook questions

Freedom Session meets every Thursday evening 7:00 - 9:00 pm at the Orangeville site. Cost is $25/workbook.
