Compass Kids

Compass kids

Compass Kids is a ministry created with your child in mind.

Our amazing volunteers are gifted and passionate about providing dynamic worship, creative teaching, and intentional small group times to capture your child’s attention and their heart.

Compass Kids
Sundays at 10:00 am (Orangeville) - Summer Hours
Sundays at 10:00 am (shelburne)

We have a deep desire that children would not only experience what it means to know and follow Jesus Christ but even more that they would become His disciples. Each week the environment and age-appropriate teaching methods are designed to help your kids understand the Bible and learn to apply its teaching to their lives. A monthly take-home sheet is also available for each age group.

Children in nursery through senior kindergarten use curriculum from Orange
Children in grades 1-5 are taught from Gospel Light.

First time at Compass Kids?

For children up to age 2, our Nursery is on the main floor just to the left of the Auditorium. You can register your little one here and leave instructions for our volunteers.

For older kids age 2 up to grade 5, head up the stairs to your left as you come in the main doors at Compass. Upstairs you will be greeted by one of our volunteers who will guide you to our guest kiosk located down our main hallway. Once you are registered you will receive a set of stickers with a family identification number for you and your child. Our registration volunteers will help you get you registered and your children to the right room.

If for some reason your child were to need you during the service, your family identification code from your registration sticker will appear on the display in the auditorium. Head to the nursery or upstairs and one of our leaders bring you to your child.

When you arrive, head to the Compass Kids Check-In Centre (if you don’t see the sign, ask a greeter to lead you there). Your kids will be checked in, and you’ll receive instructions from there.

Safety

We know your child’s safety is important to you and we share that concern. From matching parent and child security tags to ensuring every volunteer is screened with an interview, reference checks, and criminal background check, we have aimed to make Compass Kids a safe and fun place for your child to learn about God. We also have security volunteers in place in the halls of both locations.

If you have any questions about Compass Kids, please contact Mary Jane Gerber (Director of Children's Ministry) by email or by phone at 519.941.4790.

Junior (Grades 6-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12) High Weekly Programming
Junior High classes on Sundays are done for the summer. This provides opportunities for our students to enjoy the services with their families and for our volunteers to enjoy a well deserved break. In addition, our mid-week program is also finished for the summer but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected. We have a number of exciting summer events planned that you don’t want to miss. Sunday classes will start up again on September 9th.

Student Ministry Summer Events
Over the summer, we get to enjoy a relaxed and fun schedule that includes BBQ’s, pool parties and camp fires. These are great opportunities to stay connected with friends and even meet new ones! Save the following dates: Junior High, July 22nd and August 28th. Senior High, July 20th and August 22nd. To get more information or to sign up, complete this online form

Compass Students Online
To stay up to date with the Student Ministry at Compass, follow us on Instagram or Facebook. You can also sign up for our monthly parent newsletter!

Compass Student Volunteers
Does working with teenagers scare you? Get you fired up? Did you know there are many statistics pointing to the importance of student ministry to speak into and shape the faith journey of our young people? When we invest well into the young people in our church and community, we raise up a generation of confident and mature “game changers” for God’s Kingdom. Helping in student ministry can be challenging but is significantly rewarding, whether they scare you or not. Compass Students is looking for people who want to invest into our students as small group leaders, event volunteers and mentors. We are looking for people who can commit to either mid-week programs, retreats, or Sunday mornings. If you want to get more information about how you can partner with and help in the student ministry at Compass, contact Rod Vis, our Director of Student Ministry.

1 Peter: A Living Hope In Christ by Jen Wilkin (March 1 - May 10, 2018)

Our inheritance through Christ is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. In 1 Peter, a man of faith and flaws and eyewitness to the life of Christ challenges us to look beyond our current circumstances to a future inheritance. He shares his concerns on big picture issues for the early church, describes believers' true identity in Christ, and ultimately helps readers discover what it means to experience the Living Hope they have in Christ.

Key themes of humility, submission, and identity in Christ guide the study of 1 Peter as participants are challenged to read the book in its entirety each week.

We Saved You a Seat - Finding and Keeping Lasting Friendships by Lisa-Jo Baker (March 19 - May 7, 2018)

In today’s busy world, we’re wired to appear “fine,” warding off authenticity and shielding ourselves from judgment. We hide behind the hum of busyness to escape intimate friendships with the women God has placed in our lives.

But we do want a seat at the table. We yearn for authentic relationships and the opportunity to be the opposite of “fine” with people who cheer for us. But comparison, envy, and entitlement often stop us from pulling out a chair at the table. Friendship can be hard, making new friends even harder, and maintaining genuine friendship the hardest of all.

Lisa-Jo Baker explores our relationship with Jesus as the ultimate model for authentic friendship. Nothing shapes us like the impact of a friend—it’s how Jesus radically and intimately connects with us. So instead of chasing perfection, overcome your fear of being known and find the courage to connect.

Benefits:

  • Explore your relationship with Jesus as a model for friendship.
  • Debunk the myth of effortless friendship.
  • Overcome the fear of knowing and being known.
  • Stop running from friendship and find the courage to connect.

He Speaks to Me: Preparing to Hear from God by Priscilla Shirer (April 12 - May 24)

A common question of many Christians is, “How can I know when God is speaking to me?” Priscilla uses the account of God speaking to Samuel in 1 Samuel 3 to show how God speaks to Christians and how we can discern His voice and position ourselves to respond. In this exciting adventure, participants will discover how God spoke to Samuel, Samuel’s response, and how He speaks to believers today; they will be encouraged to listen and respond to God’s voice; and by listening to God’s voice and obeying Him, women will experience spiritual growth, Christian discipline, and the desire to serve.

Finding I Am –How Jesus Fully Satisfies the Cry of Your Heart by Lysa TerKeurst April 12 - May 17, 2018.

What is the deep cry of your heart? The ache in your soul that keeps you up at night? The prayer you keep repeating? Jesus not only cares about this deep, spiritual wrestling, but He also wants to step in and see you through it.

Join Lysa TerKeurst on the streets of Israel to explore the seven I AM statements of Jesus found in the Gospel of John. Through this interactive, in-depth study we will be trading feelings of emptiness and depletion for the fullness of knowing who Jesus is like never before.

Lysa TerKeurst is an author, speaker, and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries.

Compass Home Groups

compass home groups

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, we want to help you grow in your relationship with jesus christ.

home groups are a place where you can build relationships, explore biblical truth, and put your faith into action.

Joining a Home Group is easy. We simply want you to get together, get talking and get involved.

GET TOGETHER

  • Connect with others in a home group.

Be intentional about building relationships with one another. Spend time together, sharing life; the highs, the lows, and everything in between. You’ll experience authentic, caring community when you invest in group life.

GET TALKING

  • Thrive in your faith.

By engaging in real conversations about God and the Bible, you’ll grow in your faith as you explore biblical truth, pray and encourage one another.

GET INVOLVED

  • Commit to invest in the lives of others.

Group life encourages you to put your faith into action, by using your gifts and passions to serve and give in our church and in our communities.

We believe life transformation happens best in community!

HOW DO HOME GROUPS WORK?

Our groups consist of eight to twelve adults who meet regularly for a year or more. Groups meet weekly or bi-weekly on Sunday evenings and midweek evenings.

WHAT DO HOME GROUPS STUDY?

Groups are encouraged to use the weekly sermon based discussion questions.

The Sunday message serves as a conversation starter that groups continue throughout the week as they engage in meaningful discussion and study.

Our weekly discussion questions are easy to follow and provide practical application for everyone! Sermon based discussion questions create unity, synergy and inclusivity across our church and our sites. Occasionally, groups use various study materials that relate to a particular topic or interest.

What about kids?

Each home group strives to work out a suitable childcare plan. This may involve individual or shared babysitting, or rotating supervision by the group members. We don't want childcare concerns to hinder participation.

DivorceCare

DivorceCare

Next session will begin September 26th and run every Wednesday evening from 7:00-8:30 pm until December 12th. Cost: $25 (includes workbook)

DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

DivorceCare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable DivorceCare resources to help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.

Most people will tell you that separation and divorce are the most painful and stressful experiences they’ve ever faced. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before.

Our DivorceCare group meets weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:

A Seminar with Experts

During the first 30-40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.

A Support Group with Focus

After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

“Words cannot express the brokenness and pain I felt. The Divorce Care program healed my pain and gave me hope, peace and freedom from the emotional baggage I was carrying.” – Larry

“I am so grateful for you, and for Compass Community Church. What an amazing experience. I found it so helpful. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you or the Divorce Care Program.” – Joanne

Freedom Session

Freedom Session

Freedom Session is a life-changing, healing-discipleship journey that uncovers the roots of pain in our lives and invites Jesus Christ to heal those areas of our hearts.

Freedom Session encourages us to look honestly at how we deal with the challenges and troubles in life. It asks us to look into our past experiences, our strengths and our weaknesses, and challenges us to replace character defects with the character of God.

Freedom Session is writing your story with a new and God-inspired ending.

“Freedom session was a journey that took me back to the deepest hurts so that I could remember God's love for me, at the point where the lies took hold and made me forget. It was an inner heart surgery in order for me to let go of the false beliefs that were imprinted and, instead, learn to think and live truly as the creation God had originally intended.“ – Jenna

Who is Freedom Session For?

Freedom Session has proven effective for people from every walk of life, every economic level and virtually every possible area of woundedness.

Young adults planning for marriage who want to deal with some of the mistakes they’ve made in the past or hurtful memories endured while growing up.

Those currently going through a painful relationship breakdown.

Men and women struggling with purity issues such as pornography, and sexual addiction

People who compulsively use food, alcohol and/or drugs to alter their moods or avoid dealing with life.

People with less obvious issues in their lives (anger, control, isolation, frozen emotions, sarcasm, codependent relationships) who are seeking wholeness & significance.

Those who’ve been wounded through physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse.

Those who are just ready to give up, or already have given up and settled for a life of mediocrity.

We are all on a journey. We all want to be loved, find meaning and hope in this life and in our relationships. We’ve all been broken to some degree, and we all need a measure of healing. Freedom Session is for Everyone!

"It was time to face the truth of my past and all the garbage I had brought into my relationship with Christ. Freedom Session helped me along with a support team of individuals to find what real freedom was and the very reason Jesus Christ went and died on the cross. Freedom Session helped me to get real with God, myself and others.” - Clark

What is the Format?

Freedom Session is a 29-week video based program. Each week consists of:

  • Large group video teaching
  • Small groups of 6-8 people (same gender) discuss the session and review the workbook questions

Freedom Session meets every Thursday evening 7-9:30 pm at the Orangeville site.
